The 2012 winner of Miss Universe pageant Olivia Culpo was the special guest at the Lord and Taylor “Birdcage Spring” launch event on April 7, 2016 in New York City. The 23-going-on-24 model and actress wore a sleeveless white fit-and-flare dress with a wavy black midriff. She accented her looks with black stilettos and matching clutch. Olivia completed her sophisticated yet playful look with her hair swept back into an elegant bob.
The invite to the launch, which happened at the Lord and Taylor Fifth Avenue Store on 39th Street, read ” Everything Is Coming Up Roses At Lord & Taylor.” So, there was a beautiful rose wall, and rose garlands and lots of rose bouquets. And, there were also rose-themed products from the collection. Olivia Culpo says her favorite rose is red, because “it’s so romantic.” But then she also likes white roses and pink roses, as she told WWD.
And, she added “It’s spring-feeling all around. Everybody kind of has that breath of fresh air feeling around them, which is common in April.”
Prom dresses don’t all have to be overly elaborate, ostentatious and maybe even a little frumpy to be worthy of the occasion. When that special day comes, there is no need to sacrifice comfort and the little things that make you unique.
UO seems to be taking this new approach, producing some elegant and classy creations, utilizing color, cut and style in ways that makes each dress special. But, before we get into all that, let’s take a moment to appreciate the beautiful diversity and elegance of the models used in the campaign.
Really obvious is OU’s use of and emphasis on pastels.
In looking at all the really amazing selections, the dresses can be separated into 3 broad categories. The first category is the home-girl. These dresses give the vibe of a girl who’s grounded, and may be even a bit of a book worm.
The second category is the risk-taker. And, here the dresses suggest a future business mogul, and mba candidate in the making. The last category is the outright rebel. She may still be grounded and aspirational like the other categories, but the dress are suggestive of a girl who places paramount importance on independence and riding in her own lane.
In her last appearance as First Lady of The United States of America at the State of the Union speech on January 12, 2016 Michelle Obama went for a bright but somewhat unassuming look. She still however managed to steal the show, as her husband President Obama delivered a litany of successes of his administration, as well as an exhortation for the country to rise above toxic politics and attitudes.

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards, honoring the best in film and American television of 2015, happened last night on January 10, 2016. Hosted by Ricky Gervais, for the fourth time, the event was held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Some Notable winners were Taraji P. Henson, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lawrence. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite dresses and gowns.
Taraji, who won a Golden Globe for best actress in a TV drama for her role as Cookie in the hit series Empire, wore an ivory-white silk strapless gown designed by Stella McCartney.
Jennifer Lawrence took home the Golden Globe award for best actress for her film “Joy.” The actress wore a hot-tamale-red Dior gown. Most striking, was the cut-out of the dress, which showed her elegant figure, and also created a fold over just above the waist.
Lady Gaga wore a stunning off-the-shoulder jet-black custom Versace gown that gave off a very velvety feel. She won a Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a mini-series or motion picture.
Kate Bosworth wore an elegant pink strapless and floor-length sequinned gown by Dolce & Gabbana.
Corinne Foxx was the 2016 Miss Golden Globe honoree. She is Jamie Foxx‘s oldest daughter and is currently a student at the University of Southern California. She and her father did a funny parody video for the her honorary role.
Tatler magazine put on display a variety of ostentatiously eye-popping couture gowns in their December, 2015 edition. Exemplifying luxury and beauty in equal proportions, the spread provided a variety of designs and designers.

A quick jaunt to the Mediterranean-climate of Portugal to escape the cold weather in New York, London or Beijing can be the perfect answer to spend the winter in dazzling colored, layered and textured midi-skirts. Which, seems to be exactly what fashions latest it-girl, GiGi Hadid did in Vogue’s December edition. Portugal, which sits around the corner from the Mediterranean sea, has short mild winters, early springs and long hot summers.

DKNY has long overshadowed its mother-label Donna Karan, and its latest arrival in stores from the Resort 2015 collection is really exciting and prolific. The poster child of the collection is Cara Delevinge, who’s wearing her go-to accessory… a leather jacket.
The collection is urban, feathery and full of swag. Primarily monochromatic and pastel pink, the designer creatively put together pieces that are youthful and agile. The collection also has a casual and sporty feel, making the sneakers the models are wearing totally relevant.
1. The Feather Drop Waist Dress is an adorable above-the-knee dress with a shiny feathery skirt. So the top, cut like a short-sleeved t-shirt is made of ponte, a combination of polyester, rayon and spandex.
2. The Fringe Tunic Dress comes straight out of Brooklyn in style and substance. The immaculate white dress has the long fringes emanating high above the waist. Also short-sleeved the dress maintains its sporty feel, and the style with white sneakers and long strap hand bag is totally on point.

5. Petal Hem Long Sleeve Dress is a reminder that urban isn’t always about being tough as nails. The petal embellishment on the already adorable pink gown elicits a fresh girly attitude.
While everyone else is sucking out any semblance of color out of fall, including mother nature, Ms. Bendet of Alice and Olivia is using any means possible to inject it right back in.
From bright red-colored butterflies, to sun-scorched orange fall leaves, the warm aura is inviting at Alice and Olivia’s store in Soho at 96 Green Street.
Her use of sequin in this sleeveless evening gown with an exquisite backless cut out, shows an attempt to take in any and all color that surrounds the wearer and reflect it back to the world in thousand shimmers. And, color is light reflected.
Ms. Bendet paid a lot of attention (or paid someone who did) to the shape of the bareback in this seductive gown. The shape is almost regal, like the window to a palace…. or a temple.

It hasn’t exactly been a sun-kissed summer in New York City, but that hasn’t stopped the ladies on the street from wearing sun-dresses. Black may not be high on the list of summer colors, but these flowy full-length dresses accompanied by splashes of large red flowers activates every feeling of the season.
