The Elegant Drapery of Valentino for Fall 2018 at PFW

How do you dress a flower? That must have been the question on Valentino’s creative designer Pierpaolo Piccioli, as he pondered the concept for his heroic Fall 2018 collection.

Showed during Paris Fashion Week, Valentino went for elegant drapery over his feminine muse, and wrapped her like a newly crowned prima donna.

The looks from the collection were draped from head to toe in flowing gowns, some with lots of scalloped hemlines. Pierpaolo then chose to use color, particularly red and white, to communicate the passion and desire that belie the serene and at times quite regal looks. And, he used lots of solid colors.

Standing out even further were the monochromatic white and black full length gowns, which seemed to hacken to a more conservative era, particularly borrowing from the era of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice of shoulderless full length gowns, as well as the maxies and boubous of the seventies.

It’s all elegance re-imagined for the 21st century, in Valentino’s Fall 2018 collection.

The Butterflies & Warriors of The Alexander McQueen FW2018 Collection

Alexander McQueen creative directors over the years have shown an uncanny understanding of how to wrap fabric around a woman, colorfully, beautifully, and lavishly without being garish.

For the Fall/Winter 2018 collection from Paris Fashion Week, creative director Sarah Burton, who has been with the fashion house since 1996, showed a variety of styles that seemed to be transitional or in a state of metamorphosis. She seemed to take inspiration from the role women increasingly play in today’s society, where they have to be transitional from the home to the office to the boardroom and back to the home.

I feel the looks from the FW2018 can be characterized into three broad categories: the butterfly, the formal, and the warrior looks.

The most captivating were the butterfly looks, largely designed around pink hues and flowing fabrics. The warrior looks bring to mind the essence of the Dora Milaje of Wakanda in the Black Panther movie.

Meanwhile Liya Kedebe totally killed it with a look that seemed a hybrid of the butterfly and warrior looks.

Inspired by the cultural and societal upheaval of the late sixties, in a direct translation to present day, Christian Dior’s creative designer Maria Grazia Chuiri has chosen a palette of bold female actualization and discontent to embody the Christian Dior Fall-Winter 2018 Collection.

In a patchwork of arrayed and varied colors, Chuiri focused on pieces that expressed her message without being over the top. Her featured pieces showcased an assertive youthfulness in blazers, boots and lots of plaid.

Cara Delevingne perfectly captured the mood of the Christian Dior Fall-Winter 2018/19 collection, which sought to highlight the beginning of the unisex trend in fashion.

Cara, who is a British actress and model, couldn’t have looked anymore like a Dior muse. It was a very disciplined look with no fuss, and the hat made the perfect accessory giving her an appealing androgenous look.

Look at her 😭😍🖤🖤🖤🖤 #caradelevingne #dior #christiandior #pfw

The dress by Naeem Khan hemmed just below the knee was feminine, elegant, graceful and infused with allure. And, this was only one of the many amazing designs and styles Kate Middleton used to keep many style and fashion writers busy, from April 10 to 16, as she toured India and Bhutan. According to Racked, in those seven days, Duchess Kate wore 18 different outfits. So, let’s take a quick look at some of my favorite.

5 Guests At ALICE+OLIVIA See-Now-Buy-Now Runway Show Who Could Have Been The Show

Alice + olivia By Stacey Bendet And Neiman Marcus Presents held a runway show in Los Angeles on Apri 13, for their See-Now-Buy-Now 2016 Collection.

The style of Alice + Olivia has always been defined by bold colors and intriguing designs. And, it seems some of the guests took that to heart, wearing outfits that could easily have them walking on the runway, instead of seated watching the show.

However, it was Stacey Bendet, the creative director who totally stole the show.

With A Wardrobe Fit For A Duchess, Kate Middleton Tours India In Grand Style

It’s the first official trip for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, to the former Crown Jewel of the British Empire, India. And, it’s going to be a memorable one for the future Queen of England, simply for her elegant fashion and sophisticated sense of style. The royal couple will also be visiting neighboring Bhutan on this trip.

The grand tour began on April 10, and the royal couple will be staying for 7 days. So far, the Duchess has put on display her cosmopolitan wardrobe, when she wore an intricately embroidered nude and black skirt and top from Alice Temperley, an elegant cream Emilia Wickstead dress with a smart looking peter-pan collar with prominent flap-pockets, a breezy “Jaipur-inspired tunic dress from Indian designer Anita Dongre, and a stunning “beaded sapphire gown, designed by British designer Jenny Packham.”

BALMAIN HAS FINALLY OPENED ITS FLAGSHIP US STORE IN SOHO

Fashion maven Olivier Rousteing has taken Balmain from a sleepy rarefied European fashion house to the darling of social media and pop culture, as its creative director. In so doing, he’s not only revamped the brand, but has also increased sales (although it’s said that US sales are a modest but reasonable, 20%). Given it’s injection into American pop and youth culture, it makes total sense to have a physical store in the United States. Well, now they do. And, it’s in Soho, in downtown New York City.

There have been a few false-announcements, when Racked NY announced the store would open in the Fall of 2015. Also, Vogue hinted at a Fall opening in their lengthy feature on Olivier, last fall.

The Balmain store opened today on April 5, 2016, and is located at 100 Wooster Street. The store will have both men’s and women’s items, as well as accessories. A kids section will be added by the summer. The inaugural opening celebration is planned for May 2.

The interior decor has a touch of Rome, with a Romanesque visual sense in the flooring and space. Which all makes sense, given that the inspiration for the store comes from Villa Balmain, the founder’s mid-century vacation home on the Italian island of Elba.

ALL ABOUT ZENDAYA’S ABSOLUTELY DAZZLING LOOK AT HBO MOVIE PREMIERE

She was dazzling! She was stunning! And, she was chic! Zendaya chose an outfit for the premiere of an HBO movie, which put her at the top of the best dressed list at number 1 for the week of April 1 on Harpers Bazaar. Her “youthful and sophisticated” look was designed by Rani Zakhem.

Rani Zakhem is a Lebanese designer who creates luxury collections for “fashion conscious women,” meshing “feminine, elegant and modern silhouettes” that “evoke a sense of glamour.”

Zendaya’s colorful outfit was made up of a maxi skirt from Rani Zakhem SS16 collection, and the top is a strapless bustier also from the Rani Zakhem SS16 collection. Both outfits were accentuated by their large pixelated technicolored motif, where it lined the visible inside lining of the skirt fold.
